Dealing with Burdens

Sometimes our lives can be overwhelming at times for many reasons. Health concerns, financial pressures, family problems, and unexpected losses can make us feel greatly burdened by their weight. Sometimes as believers we can wonder why God allows these difficulties in our lives when we are really endeavoring to live faithfully and serve Him. However, the word of God reminds us that trials are not a sign of God‘s absence. Rather they are opportunities to experience His love and grace.
Let us look at several verses: “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increase his power” (Isaiah 40:29). “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all” (Psalms 34:19). “Blessed be the God of all comforts, who comforts us in all our afflictions so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any afflictions (2 Corinthians 1:3–4).

As soon as we respond with faith, we can find God’s peace, grace, and comfort, even in troubling times. The Lord Jesus tells us the truth, “These things have I spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Now, if you are in the middle of difficult and unsettling trials, take courage, the rest of us are too!

During times like these, we maintain our peace and stability through our unchanging, constant, eternal relation with Jesus Christ. We need to cling to our Lord and Savior. Ephesians 3:19 tells us, “. . . and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with the fullness of God.” We also need to bring Him our fears and our needs. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, and love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). That is encouraging! He is the Anchor of our Soul and the guide of our lives. Our peace and safety lie in His faithful hands.

Let me share with you part of the hymn, ‘Leave it There’ by Charles Tindley.

“If the world from you withholds of its silver and its gold, and you get along on meager fare,
Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird
Take your burden to the Lord, leave it there.
Leave it there, leave it there,
Just take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
If you trust Him through your doubt,
He will surely bring you out,
Take your burdens to the Lord and leave it there.

Rest in our Lord today!
