Preaching The Truth - Part 2

Last week we started talking about the importance of Bible doctrine in our lives. We looked at 2 Timothy 4:2–3, “Preach the Word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own desires shall gather to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” They want a pastor who will just tell them comfortable and enjoyable things.

But today in our society, God’s truth is being obscured. The truth of God‘s word is not being preached. Why is it so important to preach and hear God’s Word, “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by The Word of God” (Romans 10:17). True faith in God and Christ is developed and strengthened by actively hearing, reading and understanding God‘s Divine message, found in scripture.

Last week we talked about three doctrines that have been watered down, obscured or removed from their preaching. Let me quickly review:

Sin: Is no longer preached upon by many pastors. They do not want to be offensive or to lose their crowd. But we must realize we are sinners before we see the need for a Savior – Jesus Christ.
The Bible: Is God‘s inspired, inerrant Word. It is totally of Divine origin and the ultimate source of truth (2 Timothy 3:16). However, today many who stand in pulpits reject the Bible as God’s Word.
The church is the third rejected doctrine. As a child my parents took me to church and taught me the importance of it to my life. Today, Sunday has become the day to catch up on things, to see relatives, or just sleep in. Life is hard. Often both husband and wife work and feel tired from the stress and labor. It becomes easy to create a habit or excuse for no longer going to church. Let me encourage you to study what God says about the church and how important it is to us (Hebrews 10:25).

We are living in a world where the church is way down the list of priorities. Where is it on your list? Ephesians 3:21 tells us, “Unto Him be the glory in the church by Jesus Christ throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

Could I encourage you to make these three doctrines front and center. It will change our lives and make a difference in those we connect with.
