Preaching The Truth
The Apostle Paul told Timothy, “Preach the Word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own desires shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. ” (2 Timothy 4:2–3).
This is not a suggestion but a command by God to preachers. Today in the world we live in the truth of God‘s word is being obscured, not just by unbelievers but also by those who call themselves Christian leaders. It seems the motivation for many preachers is to just keep their crowd, not step on anyone’s toes. To remove anything that would offend. But friends, the Gospel can be offense to sin and self will.
I believe there are three doctrines that have been watered down and are not mentioned by some pastors.
Sin. Karl Menninger, an American Psychiatrist, wrote a book in 1973 entitled, “Whatever Happened To Sin?”. He pointed out that our society no longer recognizes sin as sin. That was over 50 years ago. Today we live in a generation that the Prophet Isaiah wrote about, “Woe to them that call evil good and good evil.” (Isaiah 5:20).
Romans 1-3 are a strong description of God‘s view on sin. Let me encourage you to read these chapters. You will see the conclusion by God, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). God clearly proclaims to the world the problem and consequences of sin. But thank God He also proclaims the remedy for sin – faith in Jesus Christ.
The Bible is the second doctrine rejected. Remember the song ‘The B-I-B-L-E Yes That’s The Book For Me’? It is the only Book that God wrote - 66 books, 40 writers, over a period of 1,500 years. It has one constant message and one author – God! I’m a Bible preacher. This inspired, inerrant book has changed my life. And built my faith. Find you a church and a preacher that preaches God‘s Word. Then hear it and obey it.
