The Bible tells us that we have a spiritual energy, “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he

may devour”. (1 Peter 5:8) God urges us to stay alert and resist Satan.

Who are the most important people in your life? Probably your family: your wife, your children, or your grandchildren. Do you realize they are all under attack?

Our world is not just what it is visible. We can’t see God with our eyes, but by faith we know he is real. We can’t see Satan, but sad to say, he also is real. Friends there is a spiritual war going on all around us. We can see the outward results, but not the forces behind it, and we are a part of it.

Satan has a personal plan to defeat you and all that is important to you – your family, your future, your faith. When you receive Jesus Christ as your savior, you became an enemy of Satan. He marked you as a part of God’s plan and purpose, and he is determined to keep you from serving Jesus. Even Paul told us in 1 Thessalonians 2:18, “For we wanted to come to you, I, Paul once and again, but Satan hindered us.” He tempts us to sin (1 Thessalonians 3:5), he accuses us to produce guilt (Revelation 12:10), and endeavors to deceive us (2 Corinthians 11:14) or to enslave us (Revelation 2:10)

As a pastor for 60 years, I have seen it many times. Satan will attack you, your marriage, your children, and discourage you from trusting God‘s faithfulness. He can also strike your physical and mental health.

So, what do we do? The Lord gives us a strategy in James 4:7. First, “Submit yourself therefore to God.” Acknowledge his sovereignty and authority. He is more powerful than Satan. “Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Second, resist the devil. You are to actually resist him, his temptations, and lies by choosing God‘s truth.

Third, “He will flee from you.” This is God‘s promised outcome. When you stand in Jesus, evil forces have no power and must withdraw.

So, each day, put on your armor (Ephesians 6) and go into battle with the light of God against the darkness of Satan. Let’s faithfully proclaim the message of

victory in the Lord Jesus.
